Can you design a kitchen for a Georgian townhouse?

Yes. King Street and the older streets have narrow, deep plots with kitchens at the back, and the job is light, storage and proportion. We keep original features where they matter and design the cabinetry to the room's lines.

Do you work on farmhouses and barn conversions?

Often. Mobberley, Plumley, Toft and the Peovers are full of them. Beams, uneven floors and thick walls are measured and designed around, and in-frame doors, hand-painted finishes and traditional ironmongery all come from our own workshop.

When should we involve you in an extension?

Before the architect's drawings are final. The positions of the island, sink, extraction and glazing affect the structure, and getting them right early saves changes on site. We will coordinate with your builder.

Georgian and Victorian townhouses line King Street and Princess Street, with narrow plots, tall rooms and kitchens tucked at the back. Legh Road and the roads off it are a different proposition: large Arts and Crafts and Italianate villas with generous reception rooms and the ceiling height to match. Towards Tatton, Toft and Mere the stock turns to substantial family houses on big plots. Each needs something different, which is why every kitchen we make starts as a blank sheet. We measure the room ourselves, draw around the architecture and build the cabinets to the millimetre in our workshop, so a Georgian alcove or a barn's crooked wall is part of the design rather than a problem to hide.

A kitchen in a King Street townhouse has to earn its space. The room is often long and narrow, lit from one end, and shares its wall with the dining room. We plan around sightlines and storage first, then choose finishes that keep the room light. In a Legh Road villa the problem is the opposite: a big room that needs an island, a run of tall units and good lighting to feel furnished rather than empty.

Either way, the design follows how you cook, eat and entertain, not a catalogue layout.

In-frame doors, hand-painted finishes and solid-brass or iron ironmongery all come from our own workshop, and we build around beams, thick walls and floors that were never level. Our Tarporley project shows the same care in a smaller village room.

From first visit to final fit

A visit to your home

It starts at your house, not in a showroom. We come to Knutsford, measure the room ourselves, look at the light and the way the house is used, and listen. Nothing is drawn until we understand the people who will cook in it.

Design and 3D visuals

We draw the kitchen from a blank page and show it to you in 3D before anything is made. You are welcome at the studio in Cadishead, twenty-five minutes away, to see finishes and handle samples. Changes are made on paper, where they cost nothing.

Made and fitted by us

Every cabinet is built in our own workshop and fitted by our own team. There is no subcontracted installer, so the people who made it are the people in your kitchen.
